· The main purpose of this song is to serve as an educational supplement to what the student is already learning in other classes. This means there will be multi-subject learning going on- which is always good for students.
· Although this was written for students at a more advanced level, this can really be used for most grade levels.
o Younger students may not fully understand what they are singing about- but they will certain be able to remember the information!
o Older students may be learning this information in biology class- so this will be a great help to the in that area.
· It is important to first go over the words.
o Proper pronunciation is very important in memorization
o Repeating the word multiple times will help students remember it better
o Also, going over the rhymes and rhyme scheme will help as well. Know which words rhyme together may help with pairing up fragments of the song.
· This song could be taught by rote in the classroom setting- this method would probably be most effective with younger students.
· For older students- I found that simply listening over and over will make it easier to remember (Obviously, this is a form of learning by rote, but on a more independent basis.)
· Students should be encouraged to play along on instruments. The chords are easy enough that many students would be able to play it on:
o Guitar
o Ukulele
o Piano
o Mandolin
o Add various percussion
o Possibly other instruments too!
· Once the students see how much this helps them to learn the information, they should be challenged to write their own educational song to help with a subject they are having trouble with. Some examples are:
o Important dated in history
o Math formulas
o Vocabulary Words
o Number Facts
o Geography
o So many other options!
· This song will keep students engaged and learning throughout the whole process!
